North Dakota Mensa

Mensans having fun at Denny’s in Bismarck
North Dakota Mensa was founded in 1982. It received the Innovative Owl Award for membership retention in 2000 and the Prolific Owl Award for membership growth in 2001, and first Honorable Mention for the Prolific Owl in 2005 and 2006. Member Karina Fabian received the Fiction Owl in 2007 for her ongoing contribution to the newsletter. The Owl is national Mensa’s highest award to a local group.
North Dakota Mensa has hosted
four successful Regional Gatherings at The President’s House, Valley City State
University, and is planning its fifth for 2008. Click
here to read about RG 2007 and here for info about the
upcoming RG on May 31-June 2, 2008. Among other attractions, RG ’08 will
include a musical evening with the President’s House antique player piano, a
name-the-Mensaboat contest, and boat races with the Knudson canoe, a potluck
picnic, and fireworks!
The group has regular
meetings in Fargo/Moorhead and Grand Forks and occasional meetings in Valley
City, Bismarck, and other cities..
Members also communicate
through the group’s newsletter, the Prairie Dawg. The Dawg has included
discussions about fighting terrorism, mock turtle soup, referenda, fairies,
cats, Mensa gatherings, and Death Rain potato chips. Recent issues have
included the Owl-award winning serial set at the 2006 World Gathering, written
especially for us by Karina Fabian and starring Vern the dragon, also know as Dragon Eye, P.I. If you’ve
joined us in progress, you can catch up on the earlier installments here.
